Beef Fajitas with Homemade Tortillas and Salsa Sauce
Yes it looks like a lengthy dish to make but it actually just takes as much time as making salan(curry) and roti. This is a mexican dish and I am sure you will just love it if you’ll make it. (If you haven’t tried it before)
Mexican food is spicy so it is pretty close to our desi taste.
You can make chicken fajitas as well following the same recipe, just replace beef with chicken but I mostly make beed fajitas as my husband loves those.
- Beef Steak 500g (Flank or Undercut) ( cut into strips)
- Oil 3 tbsp
- Garlic paste 1 tsp
- Ginger paste 1/2 tsp
- Salt to taste (I used 1 tsp)
- Black pepper 1 tsp
- Dry Oregano 1/2 tsp
- Worcestershire sauce 1 tbsp
- Cumin powder 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder1 tsp
- Paprika powder 1 tsp
- Lemon Juice 2 tbsp
- Sugar 1 tsp
- Capsicums 2-3 (you can also use bell peppers in different colors)
- Onion 1 large
- Coriander leaves
Make a marinade of 2 tbsp oil, ginger garlic paste, salt, black pepper, oregano, worcestershire sauce, cumin powder, red chilli powder,paprika powder, lemon juice and sugar.
Marinate beef strips in it for 2-3 hours.
Now take a non stick pan, remove beed strips from marinade and cook those in that pan for 10 minutes while flipping those, so they get perfectly cooked. You can increase the heat and charr those too if you like.
Remove those from heat and keep aside.
Now add the remaining marinade (if any) in the same pan with 1 tbsp oil and add onion cut in rings and saute till it is soft, add bell peppers or capsicum and turn the stove heat high, stir fry the capsicum on high heat so it get charred.
Put the beef strips back in or you can serve these in the way I served, that first put a bed of capsicum and onion and then put your beef strips on it.

We need to make tortillas with it.
Ingredients for Tortillas
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp salt
- warm water or milk for kneading (milk will bring a fluffier texture)
Knead the dough with all ingredients.
Let it rest covered for 20 minutes.
Make 8 balls of equal size.
Make thin soft roti on tawa.
Ingredients for cooked Salsa Sauce
- Tomatoes 5-6 peeled and diced
- Onions 2 medium diced
- Capsicum 1 cut in cubes
- Lemon juice 2 tbsp
- Sugar 1 tsp
- Garlic clove 2-3 crushed
- Paprika Powder 1/2 tsp
Put all ingredients in a pan and cook covered on very low heat. Keep on stirring after 3-4 minutes.
Cook till sauce is thickened. Let it cooled then use.
You can also add fresh salad, grated cheese and any other sauce that you may like in your fajitas.
To assemble a fajita take a tortilla and put cooked beef, onions, capsicum, salsa and any other ingredients that you like and make a roll.
