Beef Steak accompanied by different Side Dishes
Beef Steaks are easy to cook even in a frying pan and great to eat and you can serve these with mashed potato, baked potato, fries, vegetables, sautéed onion, sautéed cauliflower, macaroni and cheese or any side dish of your choice. My husband is really fond of eating good steaks so I am really trying hard to make my steaks as tasty as possible.
It is really important to get good meat though so you should be really careful while choosing your steak.
In Pakistan undercut (sirloin) meat is considered most tender and best for steaks so get it from your meat shop in your desired thickness and size.
A thick piece takes more time to cook where as a thin piece gets cooked quickly.
People who live abroad mostly like their steak to be rare or medium rare etc. but we as Pakistanis are never satisfied till the steak is medium-well or well-done so as many desi Pakistanis I like mine well-done too and yes I believe in eating what one likes. Moreover the beef that is available here has not gone through any quality checks before being sold so I feel that I should cook it properly than getting sick later.
Ingredients for Steak
- Beef undercut fillet 500 g
- Salt 1 tsp or as per your taste
- Worcestershire sauce 2 tbsp
- Honey 1 tsp
- Black pepper for seasoning
- Crushed garlic 1/2 tsp
- Soy Sauce 1 tbsp
- Olive Oil 2 tbsp
- Mustard paste 1 tsp
- Butter 2 tbsp
Marinate your steak with salt, Worcestershire sauce (as it will tenderise the meat), garlic, honey, mustard paste and soy sauce for 2-4 hours in refrigerator.
Take it out half an hour before cooking it.
Heat a frying pan or grill pan on very high flame.
Turn the heat from medium-high when it is really hot.
Drizzle olive oil on the surface, it will leave some smoke, that proves that your surface is ready for cooking.
Place your meat on the pan, now you can either keep on flipping the sides or first let it get cooked from one side and then flip it once and cook the other.
Keep on seasoning it with your desired amount of black pepper.
A thin piece takes from 6-7 minutes each side to reach the well done stage.
2 minutes before your steak is ready and cooked, put some butter in your pan.
Coat it well in butter and serve.
Here is another picture of T-bone steak that I cooked in same way but as it was a very thick piece I baked it in oven on high heat for 7 minutes and then cooked it in pan. I served it with herbed potatoes and caramelised onion.
Ingredients for Mashed Potatoes
- 3 large potatoes cut in cubes
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tbsp cream
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Nutmeg powder 1/2 tsp if you want some extra flavour
Take a lot of water in a pan and add some salt in it, put potato cubes in that and let these boil till they are really soft. You can check it with a fork.
Drain the water and put the potatoes back in the pot and let the potatoes dry on high heat for 30 seconds or so.
Melt the butter and heat mix it with cream and hot milk.
Start mashing the potatoes using the potato masher and keep on adding the butter, milk and cream mixture while mashing.
Your desired potatoes consistency is soft and fluffy.
When these are soft and fluffy with no lumps, whisk in salt and pepper.
Ingredients for Sautéed Vegetables
You can take any vegetables that you like but I mostly use the most easily available fresh vegetables.
- Carrot 1 cut in thick strips as you can see in picture.
- Zucchini 1
- French Beans
- You can also use Broccoli and Baby Corn
- Olive oil 2 tbsp
- Mixed herbs 1/4 tsp
- Salt to taste
Heat some olive oil in a frying pan and add your vegetables and stir these.
Add salt and herbs.
Fry for around three minutes and serve with your steak.
These vegetables will add color and nutritional value to your meal.
