There are two versions of Chicken Francaise or French Lemon Chicken one is Italian version and one is authentic French version.
In Italian version cream is also added to the sauce.
Here I am sharing the original recipe of chicken Francaise but at the end I gave it a desi touch as it is too bland for our taste.
You can serve this yummy aromatic chicken with mashed potatoes, rice or vegetables.
- Chicken breast fillet 500 g
- Lemon Juice 2 tbsp
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- Paprika powder 1/2 tsp
- Eggs 2
- All purpose flour 1 cup
- Garlic Powder 1/2 tsp
- White vinegar 2 tbsp
- Butter 4 tbsp
- Sugar 1 tbsp
- Black Pepper 1/2 tsp
- Crushed Red Chilli Flakes ( to give it a desi touch) 1 tsp
- Lemon slices of 1 lemon
Take chicken breast fillets and pound those really well with a meat mallet so they are flat and thin.
Marinate those in lemon juice, salt, pepper and paprika powder.
Now take all purpose flour in a plate and add some salt, garlic powder and pepper to that, also beat two eggs in a separate plate and mix some salt and pepper in those as well.
Heat some butter in a pan. First Coat chicken pieces in flour and then in egg mixture and fry in that butter so both sides are golden and crispy. Remove the pieces from butter and put on a kitchen towel.
Now take 2 tbsp butter in a pan and fry some garlic in that, add 1 cup chicken stock made of two chicken cubes, 1 tbsp lemon juice, some lemon zest, 2 tbsp white vinegar, 1 tbsp sugar (Ok so far it is authentic French recipe but it is too bland for our taste) so I added 1 tsp of crushed red chili in that and let it cook till sauce is a bit thick.
If you wont add chilli it will stay the French Chicken without desi touch.
In italian sauce they add cream in the lemon sauce. So you can choose the way you wanna make it.
Place chicken pieces gently in this sauce as we want the crust to stay intact and let it cook. The chicken will be well cooked in a while and sauce will be really thick.
Place chicken pieces in serving dishes, pour sauce over those and garnish with fried lemon pieces.
