Quick and Easy Pita Bread Pizza for Kids
My kids are really choosy when it comes to food (just like their father) and they do not easily eat everything, so I have to make sure that I cook something that both of my kids will accept and eat.
I have never seen a kid who doesn’t like pizza but making pizza from scratch is a bit lengthy task, specially pizza dough takes a lot of time. So now I have started making these pita bread pizzas which are very quick and easy to make, plus the soft dough is easy to eat for kids.
I put a topping of anything like left over chicken, sausages, tikka chunks and even tender pops or hot tenders by KNN. Yesterday I made pizzas with sausages which are easily available in frozen form. You can also use left over chicken and just cut it in small pieces and fry again with some chilli sauce and oregano to make pizza topping.
- Pita Bread loafs 4
- Chicken pieces or Sausages
- Capsicum cut in small squares 1
- Onion cut in small squares 1
- Green Chilli 1
- Pizza Cheese or any left over cheese
- Crushed red chilli flakes
- Pizza Sauce (I am sharing the recipe of an easy pizza sauce below)
- Olive Oil
Take pita bread loafs and toast them on a heavy skillet or tawa from both sides, then spread some olive oil or butter on them.
After that spread pizza sauce.
Then spread sausages or any meat based topping that you are using.
Fry Capsicum, Onion and Green Chilli in 1 tbsp olive oil in a frying pan for 5 minutes.
Spread a layer of these vegetables. Sometimes I also add olives in these vegetables.
Sprinkle red chilli flakes, and oregano plus some salt.
Spread Pizza Cheese or any left over cheese that you find in your fridge on the top.
Bake in oven on 200 degrees for 15 minutes with just top grill on so the cheese melts and turns brown.
Ingredients for Pizza Sauce
- Tomatoes 500g
- Mixed herbs (oregano, thyme, basil etc) 1/2 tsp
- Crushed Garlic 3 cloves
- Black Pepper 1/2 tsp
- Sugar 1 tsp
- Crushed Red Chilli 1 tsp
- Onion 1 medium (finely chopped)
- Tomato Ketchup 2 tbsp
Put tomatoes in a pan and cover with water, bring it to boil, soon the skin of tomatoes will start cracking, remove the tomatoes from water and peel the skin. You can also put them under cold tap water to bring down the temperature quickly and then peel.
Put the tomatoes in a food processor with 1/2 cup water and make a puree.
As I have shared that my kids do not eat vegetables easily, I some times also add half zucchini in my pizza sauce. My kids cant notice the taste but it gives me some satisfaction that at-least they have eaten some vegetable. If you also want to do that, chop zucchini in real small chunks and add to your sauce.
Now put tomato puree and all the ingredients in a pan, put it on stove and cover the lid.
Let it simmer for 20-25 minutes.
Taste and adjust the seasoning. Make it a bit more thick if it is still watery by turning the heat high.
Yummy and easy Pizza Sauce is ready.
My husband also makes pizzas sometimes but he always spreads a layer of ketchup followed by a lot of oregano and claims that it is as good as the pizza sauce that you make, but I personally feel that only using tomato ketchup will make the pizza really sweet. I like the acidic taste of fresh tomatoes in my sauce so I always make this sauce from scratch.
